The History

The very beginning

The link started in June 2001 when a teacher and some pupils from Shawlands Academy were invited to the opening of Glasgow’s new Science Centre. It was opened by President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa. One of our pupils, Sidra Moughal, then in her third year, gave a speech on behalf of the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair.

During the visit we had a chance to video conference with a South African School.

The schools linked by video conference were:

Shawlands Academy with Realogile Secondary School,

Boclair Academy with Emshukantambo Secondary School,

Liberton Primary School with Winnie Ngwekazi Primary School,

Balivanich Primary School with Khuthala Primary School

This was our first contact with the Realogile High School..
