The day after we returned from Pezulu was National Election Day in South Africa, so we went with the pupils from Realogile
to see a polling station in Soweto, which were lots of coloured tents. The queues were absolutely huge; it was amazing to
see how important democracy was to the South African people. IT was only the third election in South Africa and the 10th
Anniversary of the end of the Apartheid regime there. Which would account for some of the popularity, but even when we went
to the school it was apparent how important the result of the election was to South Africa’s young people.
We went to Kareekloof (40 km from Johannesburg) for a picnic, there was a barbecue and they made loads of food for us.
After lunch we explored the park, there was a swimming pool, water slides, trampolines and an adventure playground! We could
have gone horse riding but it was all booked up so only one group of us got the chance.
That night we were all really tired so we made Mr Birnie and Mr O’Neil go out and get us a McDonalds!
